HIV Fourth Generation assay upgrade

October 4, 2016

As  a leader in the life insurance industry, we are committed to ensuring our clients are using the most current and accurate laboratory testing equipment and methodologies. Quest Diagnostics, a leader in diagnostic testing, is passionate about developing innovative, ground-breaking tests, products, and tools to provide value to clients.

Earlier this year we announced we would be converting to the HIV-1/2 Antigen and Antibodies, Fourth Generation assay. Our goal was to convert  to this Centers for Disease Control and Prevention preferred assay by August 1. However, due to some State Department of Insurance regulations still referencing “Western Blot” testing, we need additional time to prepare. Our new effective date for the HIV 4th Generation assay is November 14.

Additionally, we wanted to make you aware that recent state regulations requested a start date of October 1, 2016 for applicants residing in Washington D.C. We received approval from the Associate Commissioner for Insurance to delay implementation to these applicants until our full rollout on November 14.

Further, we will be in compliance with states still requiring 3rd Generation tests (Western Blot) until we are notified of an updated language change on their regulations.
